We are seeking a Counselor II / Temporary - John MaGill School Mental Health Certificate Program - (Pickens) who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate lifes challenges and achieve long-term wellness. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, assigned location(s) of the School District of Pickens County and the Pickens County Clinic, 337 West Main Street, Easley, SC 29640.

As a Counselor II/Temporary, under direct supervision, learn the agency's electronic health record, learn and adhere to the agency's policies and procedures, and assist agency mental health professionals in the provision of school mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families in a culturally competent manner.

Responsibilities for the Counselor II/Temporary:

  • Assist mental health professionals by co-facilitating clinical mental health services for assigned patients, including screening, assessments, and treatment services (individual, family, and group) utilizing evidence-based and best practice approaches.

  • Participate in agency and the John H. Magill School Mental Health Certificate Program (the Magill Program) required training and professional development.

  • Meet the Magill Program competencies as outlined in the program manual.

  • Complete assignments as directed by the Magill Program manual, including but not limited to participating in regular supervision, progress monitoring reporting, and adhering to outlined professional practices.

  • Assist mental health professionals by providing patient-related mental health consultation to school personnel.

Learn and adhere to agency standards for record keeping and documentation to ensure accurate, collaborative, and timely completion consistent with OMH regulations and standards, CARF standards, and applicable federal and local laws regulating the provision of health care.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Enrollment in a master's program in a related field such as psychology, social work, or counseling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments

Post hire, employees must have:

  • Must possess foundational knowledge of principles, methods, and counseling practices used in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and required organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate information clearly and effectively in a way others will understand.

  • Must possess the ability to empathize and maintain confidentiality.

  • Able to identify and utilize community resources.

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and other professionals.

  • Work is supervised by a Site Supervisor and assigned Mental Health Professional.

  • Attendance is required at scheduled program staff and center-wide meetings.

  • Adherence to Center and OMH policies and procedures.

  • May require the ability to bend, stoop, or climb or lift 5 pounds.

  • Must possess & maintain a valid state driver's license.

This position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
