Job Summary and Qualifications

Assists the planning, organizing, directing, defining and coordinating of clinical services necessary to meet the legal, organizational, medical staff and regulatory agencies guidelines. Provides case management, education and discharge planning. Performs community and educational activities.

  • Provide activities for patients admitted to the program which include following program group schedule and provide set holiday activities on provided dates. Provide support and or participation for after hour activities especially on weekends. 
  • Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Attends set treatment team meetings and progress reviews as evidence by signature on treatment planning update forms. 
  • Conducts individual activity assessments on each patient within given timeframes. 
  • Makes a written report of initial assessment, evaluation, treatment and progress as evidenced by initial assessment forms completed in the medical record and documentation in the progress notes. 
  • Document patient progress with therapeutic activities in patient’s medical record. 
  • Request needed supplies for activity department. Request should be made in compliance with the hospital’s purchasing department guidelines. 
  • Plan and secure approval from Activities Therapy Coordinator, Program Director, Medical Director and Nursing Director for all outdoor activities. Conduct all approved outdoor activities in a safe and secure environment. 
  • Attends required training and continuing education as evidenced by attendance forms that will be added to personnel file. 
  • Completes all competency requirements as evidenced by completion forms, these will be completed annually or per hospital requirements. 
  • Assist with referral development and community education activities. 
  • Uses trends/acts upon information obtained to ensure quality of care and safety. 
  • Ensures the application of Customer Service principles in meeting and exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers to provide satisfaction. 
  • Maintains collaborative/cooperative relationships with others in the organization by sharing meaningful information, soliciting feedback and exhibiting respect and support. 
  • Is proactive in developing a network between and within departments. 
  • Is proactive in exchanging feedback/recognition with peer group and administrative team. 
  • Responds, promotes and supports changes with flexibility. 
  • Meets reporting deadlines. 
  • Conduct reinforces company values and promotes the Code of Conduct. 
  • Performs other duties and special projects as required and approved by Program Director.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy or Art Therapy preferred.
  • 6 months of experience in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy or Art Therapy in a psychiatric/behavioral health setting preferred and must meet Florida state requirements.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Other-Fingerprint Required
  • (AAP-BC) Advanced Activity Professional-BC, or (CTRS) Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or (MT-BC) Music Therapy - Board Certified
