Position Summary: Serves as a part of the management team reporting to the Clinical Manager. Provides clinical direction/supervision and consultation to Counselors. Distributes cases to appropriate team patients to ensure effective delivery of treatment. Ensures the availability of all services and supports practices to meet behavioral health needs of patients in accordance with established treatment plan. Is also responsible for providing appropriate behavioral health services to patients in relation to behavioral, interpersonal, alcohol, or substance use concerns. Identifies and assesses individual and group needs, develops and implements treatment plans for counseling. Communicates frequently with the clinical team and external sources to provide effective care services. Ensures that all activities and documentations are performed timely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable behavioral health regulations and standards.

Critical Tasks:

  • Be able to do all critical tasks of a Counselor (1049) as program needs or staff coverage dictate. Provide counseling services to assigned caseload.
  • Provides clinical and administrative oversight, guidance and support to assigned staff using a strengths based approach.
  • Provides clinical supervision to staff working towards independent licensure.
  • Assign cases to counselors based on assessment of counselor skills and competences to ensure delivery of effective and appropriate treatment in accordance with the established plan of care.
  • Helps identify, develop, and provide education and training of staff designed to further skills, knowledge, and competency.
  • Uses judgement to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite possible and/or frequent interruptions.
  • Responds to confusion and complaints in a diplomatic manner while making all reasonable efforts to meet needs of patients.
  • Reviews and approves treatment plans and assessments within timelines of counselors to ensure plans adhere to established criteria.
  • Ensure patient charts are being reviewed/audited for appropriate documentation per internal audit tool.
  • Helps facilitate and attend clinical team meetings to monitor patient progress.
  • Assists as needed with complicated patients, parents, and other stakeholder meetings or cases.
  • Recruits and selects new Counselors in conjunction with Clinical Manager.
  • Conducts staff development plans, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations to assigned staff members.
  • Works closely with Clinical Manager and the BHS team in all areas of collaboration throughout the system.
  • Assists with developing systems to track data and reports as needed.
  • Represents Behavioral Health Services as part of the interface between social service agencies, courts and treatment providers to ensure timely and coordinated communication.
  • Perform other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use/Addictions or closely related field of study from an accredited university or college.
  • Current independent license form Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners as either an LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LIAC required.
  • 2 years of experience in Mental Health counseling required; Native American population preferred.
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  • Current and continuing CPR/FA and/or BLS training and certification required.
  • State of Arizona driver's license with no significant violations during the last 5 years.
  • Two years of experience in Mental Health/Substance Use counseling required; Native American population preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
