COST ESTIMATOR NEEDED - FARMINGTON HILLS, MICHIGAN
A Leading Automotive Supplier in the Farmington Hills, Michigan area needs a Cost Estimator. Previous Cost Estimating Experience in an Automotive Manufacturing Company is required. Candidates must have Automotive Welded Assembly & Metal Stamping Expertise. This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Cost Estimator analyzes product specifications and then applies specialized knowledge of methodologies, techniques, and processes to determine labor, material and other direct and indirect costs involved in procurement and production. Engineering supports this process with visual bill of materials and manufacturing process flow details.
- This individual will be responsible for costing metals products for various regional operations and all aspects of cost management for all OEM s and developing new business.
- Coordinates with engineering, operations, purchasing, and the tooling groups to standardize the company s efforts regarding manufacturing and design from a cost perspective.
- Provides support to Program Management with respect to issues concerning advanced product engineering, manufacturing, production stamping, die processes, assembly processes, and customer cost evaluations.
- If not supplied by customer, can determine part weights and raw material assumptions
- If not defined by the customer, can determine manufacturing processes required to produce product and collaborates with advanced manufacturing engineering to solidify assumptions.
- Aligns with purchasing to provide targets and secure supplier pricing.
- Works to support rate development activities in line with company objectives and best practices.
- Updates cost model, applying profit markup, to determine the recommended selling price for review with Management.
- Confers with design and manufacturing engineers on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Maintains data in information system or databases.
- Interfaces directly with the Executive Leadership Team to communicate results and support business decisions from a calculated point of view.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support continuous improvement and evolution of company objectives.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor s Degree in Engineering or Finance (MBA is a plus). A Degree is desired but not required.
- 5+ years of experience as a Cost Estimator in a Manufacturing Company.
- 3+ years of work experience in the Automotive Industry.
- Candidates Must Have Welded Assembly and Metal Stamping Expertise.
- Metals and Mechanisms experience in Automotive Seating is highly valued.
- Experience with tool builds, troubleshooting, and tool follow up is preferred.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Creating and maintaining cost models.
- Stamping tool & gage estimating.
- Ability to develop and interpret welding process flows (laser, MIG, resistance).
- Strong knowledge in Metal Forming and Joining Processes (i.e., Stamping, Tube Bending, Welding, etc.).
- Ability to assess manufacturing feasibility.
- Ability to read drawings and STP files.
- Highly proficient in MS Excel (VBA experience is a plus).
- Ability to manage ambiguity successfully.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills.
