Cost Accountant


Pay: $78,000–$95,000 per year


Job Description


We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to play a critical role in supporting the financial health and operational success of our organization. This role combines traditional staff accounting responsibilities with cost accounting, job costing, and operational financial analysis to help drive accurate reporting and informed business decisions.


The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, experience in construction or project-based accounting environments.


Financial & General Accounting for Cost Accountant:



  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP.

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.

  • Prepare and analyze bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as needed.


Cost Accounting & Project Analysis



  • Monitor and analyze job costs, production costs, labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor expenses.

  • Perform variance analysis to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities through project and operational cost analysis.

  • Collaborate with operations and project management teams to track project profitability and cost performance.

  • Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and project cost tracking.


Systems & Operational Support



  • Utilize accounting and operational software systems to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy.

  • Support estimating, production tracking, and operational reporting using Trimble Bid to Win (B2W) and TRACK software.

  • Lead support for TRACK optimization and implementations.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency within accounting and project reporting functions.

  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and ensure depreciation records are accurate and current.


Compliance & Reporting of Cost Accountant:



  • Prepare tax support schedules and compliance documentation.

  • Research and interpret accounting guidance as necessary to support accurate reporting and compliance.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.


Qualifications:



  • 3–5+ years of accounting or cost accounting experience, preferably within construction, manufacturing, or project-based industries.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.

  • Experience with job costing, cost analysis, and project accounting.

  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Accumatica or similar platforms.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; proficiency with Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
