About Reception Diagnostic Center:

The Reception Diagnostic Center is a maximum-security intake facility located in Plainfield, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 600 incarcerated adult males. All adult males entering the Indiana Department of Correction are received, assessed, and classified at this facility. Assessments include physical and mental health evaluations, addiction services screening, and education and work-readiness reviews. This information helps determine the most appropriate long-term facility placement. Staff coordinate comprehensive evaluations to support safety and rehabilitation. Role Overview:

As a Correctional Training Officer, you will provide specialized instruction for both new and veteran employees at one of the Departments Correctional Facilities. You will work under the supervision as designated by the Facility Superintendent in the review and update of training, identifying budgetary needs, and performance and implementation of the training programs for preparation of all operations, support, and program service staff. This position will assist/coordinate various adjunct trainers and subject matter specialists, performing their duties with general supervision, operating within the confines of established guidelines, Departmental policies/procedures, State and Federal law and ACA standards. You will also provide support instruction at the Correctional Training Institute, as needed.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Conduct and assist in new employee, annual, and on-the-job training for all staff.
  • Assist in the development of training curricula to meet specific performance objectives.
  • Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards.
  • Assist supervisor to ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards are in compliance with established standards.
  • Maintain a variety of training records, course information, and prepare written reports.

What Youll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in corrections, education, in-service training, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of Staff Development and Training Division including Administrative Procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Adult Learning principles.
  • Working knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA standards and departmental policies and procedure.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, including the Train the Trainer programs.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
