It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC and houses approximately 1,500 medium and close custody male offenders. Positions in this class direct programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the institution system. Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Positions provide direction to the programs staff in methods and techniques to be followed in carrying out programs. The primary programs areas are offender classification, offender discipline, correctional programs, including incentive wage, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive based interventions, and recreation; and correctional counseling. Work involves supervision of subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis. Positions are responsible for coordinating programs with custody and other facility staff.

Salary Range: $43,267 - $75,718

· Thorough knowledge of correctional programs and evidence-based practices.
· Thorough knowledge of methods and practices of rehabilitative counseling, planning, guidance, and placement.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

About the Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
