Description:

The Corporate Director of the Central Leave Office & Accommodations provides systemwide leadership for Emory Healthcare's leave and workplace accommodation programs. This role is accountable for the strategic direction, administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of leave of absence and accommodation processes across the enterprise.

 

The Corporate Director ensures Emory Healthcare's approach to leave and accommodations is legally compliant, operationally sound, and aligned with organizational and workforce priorities. This includes setting standards for how leave and accommodation requests are reviewed, approved, documented, communicated, tracked, reported, and closed, with a strong emphasis on consistency, defensibility, and risk mitigation.

 

Key areas of responsibility include expert oversight of FMLA and state leave programs, ADA and PWFA accommodations, return-to-work programs, and related leave benefits. The role monitors regulatory changes, industry trends, and internal data to recommend program enhancements and ensure Emory Healthcare remains compliant and competitive.

 

Governance & Compliance

  1. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including FMLA, ADA, PWFA, and state leave laws
  2. Establishes, revises, administers, and communicates leave and accommodation policies, procedures, workflows, and related documentation
  3. Monitors legislative and regulatory changes and leads updates to policies, practices, and training
  4. Reviews and evaluates leave-related benefit programs in partnership with the Corporate Director, Total Rewards

Program Design & Operational Excellence

  1. Oversees end-to-end design and execution of leave and accommodation processes
  2. Establishes audit and quality assurance frameworks
  3. Uses data and metrics to identify risk and drive improvements
  4. Partners with Payroll to ensure accurate leave-related pay and benefits

Cross-Functional Partnership

  1. Collaborates with HR Business Partners, Employee Relations, Legal, Compliance, Payroll, and leaders to resolve complex cases
  2. Partners with Occupational Health Services to align workers' compensation, leave, and return-to-work planning

Education & Training

  1. Designs and delivers training for HR, leaders, and employees on leave and accommodation policies and practices.

People Leadership

  1. Leads leave advisors and nurse case managers
  2. Coaches, mentors, and develops staff and ensures service excellence

Additional Duties as Assigned

 

Travel: Travel between Emory operating units and affiliated sites
Work Type: Hybrid employee - may split time between working remotely and working in the office

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Seven years of progressive HR experience, including five years in leave or accommodation administration
  • Three years of people leadership experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Deep knowledge of FMLA, ADA, PWFA, and state leave laws
  2. Healthcare experience strongly preferred
  3. Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) Lifting 25 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
