Copywriter / Proofreader
Job Summary
This contract role focuses on freelance writing, reporting, and copy editing for a corporate news center. The contractor provides independent, journalistic-style content, conducts interviews with senior leaders and experts, and delivers publish-ready stories on tight, project-based timelines without participating in internal strategy or ongoing communications programs.
Responsibilities
- Produce news and feature stories on topics such as public health, social justice, healthcare reform, innovation, and major business initiatives using a conversational, journalistic voice.
- Conduct independent interviews with senior executives, subject-matter experts, and external stakeholders, maintaining a professional, third-party reporter posture.
- Proactively generate and pitch story ideas based on industry news, national and regional healthcare issues, public sentiment, and other relevant external events.
- Provide ad hoc writing and editing support for select corporate communications initiatives and reports as needed, without owning ongoing programs or workflows.
- Deliver project-based assignments at the requested level of depth and specificity while working independently from internal teams.
- Maintain editorial separation from internal leadership and teams, supplying an external voice and independent perspective.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of professional journalism experience, including long-form reporting, interviewing, and feature-style storytelling.
- Proven ability to confidently interview senior executives, C-suite leaders, and high-profile stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining editorial independence and adhering to journalistic standards.
- Ability to quickly understand complex healthcare and related topics and translate them into accessible narratives for a broad audience.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and reporting skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Experience in corporate communications or working with executive-level stakeholders is preferred.
