Coordinator of Safety and Security
As the Director of School Safety and Security, you will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. In this leadership position, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety and security programs, policies, and procedures. Your expertise in emergency preparedness, security measures, and crisis management will contribute to the overall well-being of the school community. Collaboration with internal stakeholders, law enforcement, and community engagement are key aspects of this role. Your leadership will ensure a proactive and responsive approach to various safety concerns, fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor''s or advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., criminal justice, security management, education).
- Five years of experience in security management, law enforcement, or a related field, with a focus on educational institutions.
- Relevant certifications in school safety, emergency management, or security (e.g., Certified Protection Professional - CPP).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Leadership qualities to manage a team and drive safety initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulate, implement, and review safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of students, staff, and visitors
- Develop and oversee emergency preparedness plans and drills to address various potential threats, including natural disasters and security incidents
- Implement security measures such as access control systems, surveillance cameras, and other technologies to enhance the safety of the school environment
- Collaborate with school administrators, faculty, and local law enforcement agencies to create a comprehensive safety strategy.
- Provide training sessions for school staff, teachers, and students on safety protocols, emergency response, and crisis management
- Conduct investigations into safety incidents, accidents, or security breaches and recommend corrective actions
- Act as a point of contact during crises, coordinating with relevant authorities and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders
- Conduct regular security audits and assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and keep abreast of developments in school safety practices
- Engage with parents, community members, and local organizations to foster a sense of community and collective responsibility for school safety
- Supervise in collaboration with local officials school based SRO's
- Serves as a liaison for transportation, facilities, nutrition, and student services during a district wide event.
- Accepts other duties as may be assigned which are related to the scope of the job and outlined in their key performance indicators
Physical Demands:
While the position is an office-based role involving tasks such as developing, implementing and providing training, the Director of Safety also frequently visits schools and attends meetings both locally and outside the parish. This aspect of the job requires mobility and the ability to travel, adapt to various educational and stakeholder environments, and engage with a wide range of educational professionals.
