Job Title Coordinator of Business and Specialty Careers Job Description

The Coordinator of Business & Specialty Careers supports the planning, promotion, coordination, and implementation of Workforce Development and Community Education (WDCE) programs. This position plays a key role in assisting the Director of Business & Specialty Careers with program development, delivery, and evaluation.

The coordinator works collaboratively with internal departments, instructors, businesses, and community partners to ensure high-quality training opportunities that align with workforce needs. This role combines program coordination, customer service, and administrative support to help expand participation and enhance the visibility of WDCE offerings.

Full Time or Part Time Full Time Essential Duties Summary

Job Duties will include:

  • Assist the Director in developing, administering, implementing, and evaluating workforce training programs that meet community and employer needs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to prospective students, employers, and community partners by responding to inquiries and connecting individuals with appropriate training opportunities.
  • Support instructor recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling; coordinate logistics including classrooms, materials, and equipment for assigned programs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of registrations, contracts, and required documentation in accordance with WDCE procedures.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with business and industry partners, community organizations, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with outreach efforts, including participation in community events, workforce initiatives, and Business & Industry Team activities.
  • Monitor workforce development trends and support innovative strategies to expand program offerings and enrollment.
  • Maintain accurate records, assist with reports, and support budget tracking for assigned programs.
  • In conjunction with the WCC marketing department, plan, implement, and target marketing plans for assigned occupational extension, business, and online educational areas.
  • Collaborate with other WDCE areas to promote cross-program opportunities and partnerships.
  • Assist the Director with special projects and initiatives related to Business & Specialty Careers programming.
  • Participate in professional development activities, college committees, and division initiatives.
  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of Wilkes Community College and the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of an associate degree in a related field, such as Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in program coordination, workforce development, or continuing education is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with social media platforms and customer relationship management systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of workforce training programs, continuing education, or community college operations is a plus.

Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with appropriate climate controls. Work schedule may include evenings or weekends to accommodate workshops, programs, or community activities.

Salary Grade Salary Salary Range: $40,000 to $50,000 based on education and experience in accordance with the college salary plan.
