Position Function:
The function of this position is to recruit and train migrant parents to form local Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) throughout the state, as well as at the State level. Also, the role involves recruiting migrant parents to represent the families in their communities, who will guide the Migrant Education Program in further development of services and programs for the success of migrant children. Additionally, the Migrant Coordinator provides quality educational, support, and advocacy services based on the identified needs of migratory children and youth, with a focus on students with an educational interruption and risk of academic failure. Extensive statewide travel is required to deliver accessible, individualized tutorial services directly in the homes of migratory preschool to Out-of-School-Youth. Also, the Migrant Advocate develops key networks with schools and community agencies to foster coordination, effective collaboration, and ensure that migratory children receive all the services they are entitled to receive.
Salary Grade: 13

The Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center is a federal program that offers supplemental and supportive educational services to ensure that migrant children have access to all opportunities that a public education offers. The Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center is funded through the Mississippi Department of Education.

Experience organizing events
Experience working with multicultural groups or other nonprofit organizations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Speak Spanish fluently.
Knowledge of state agencies and community service organizations that serve migratory families.
