Job Summary and Qualifications
- In collaboration with IP Director, develop, implement, and evaluate the organizational infection prevention program.
- Coordinate day to day activities related to the identification, surveillance, and prevention of infections/communicable diseases.
- Coordinate development of an annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.
- Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations. Evaluate and modify the surveillance plan as necessary.
- In collaboration with IP Director, develop, implement, and evaluate the organizational infection prevention program.
- Develop, interpret and assist with implementation of infection prevention and control policies and protocols.
- Communicate infection prevention and control information and data to various committees and healthcare workers across the organization as assigned.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a reporting system for nosocomial infections/communicable diseases.
- Maintains communication with the medical staff and hospital staff regarding detection, surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases and other possible hazardous situations.
- Assist all department managers in developing, implementing and updating the infection control standards for their departments.
- Serves as a liaison to medical and hospital staff in the area of Infection Control. Also serves as the liaison with the Virginia Department of Health and CDC when appropriate and necessary.
- With IP Director, coordinates the facility’s Infection Control Committee, supervises ICP staff, providing ongoing direction, guidance, and support.
- Assess and address learning needs of those served.
- Create educational goals, objectives, and strategies using learning principles and available educational tools and technology.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and learner outcomes.
- Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
- Facilitate compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Stay current on infection prevention and control regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Utilize PI methodology as a means of enacting change.
- Define the scope of the project and select appropriate PI tools to aid in efficiency, reliability, effectiveness and ensure sustainability of the initiative.
- Ensure that customer needs and expectations are considered in the development of and continuous improvement of processes, products, and services.
- Monitor and analyze process and outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability.
- Participate in PI committees, teams and initiatives as indicated.
What qualifications you will need:
- Must have healthcare-related and infection control experience
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be proficient in PC skills in a Windows operating environment and have experience with data management
- Must have a Baccalaureate degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related field
- Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is preferred or must be obtained within one year after employment
- 3 years of relevant experience is required
