Bachelor's degree in not-for-profit management, business management, sales, communications, or a related field. Three years of experience in a related field. Grant writing experience preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Performs advanced and complex coordination of grant-related activities within University Advancement - Development, with a focus on private and corporate foundation relations. Supports the identification, development, submission, and management of grant proposals while ensuring compliance with institutional and funding agency guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities

Oversees the full lifecycle of private and corporate foundation grants, including proposal development, submission, and post-award activities. Writes, edits, and reviews grant proposals and required reports in collaboration with faculty, staff, and campus partners. Tracks internal and external deadlines for grant submissions and reporting while developing and maintaining a comprehensive grant calendar to monitor proposal timelines, award requirements, and reporting schedules. Coordinates across the university with faculty, staff, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), and the Office of Research Administration (ORA) to support proposal development, budget creation, and award management. Organizes and participates in meetings related to grant planning, submissions, and post-award implementation, including kick-off meetings. Ensures compliance with funding agency guidelines and university policies by monitoring grant requirements and reporting obligations. Researches and identifies new private and corporate foundation funding opportunities aligned with institutional priorities. Prepares and reviews programmatic and financial reports related to grant activities and supports the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of grant-supported programs. Ensures compliance with grant requirements, guidelines, and funding restrictions, and supports accurate documentation and reporting of grant activities. Provides coordination and oversight support to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. May oversee and provide guidance to assigned program staff in support of grant-related initiatives. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Works collaboratively within a complex environment and communicates positively with all constituents and internal colleagues (subject matter experts, faculty, ORSP staff, and ORA staff). Must be highly motivated, an energetic self-starter with sound judgment and decision-making ability, and attention to detail with solid organizational ability. Must possess very strong writing and verbal communication skills and have exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Familiarity with higher education fundraising and the moves management process is a plus. A professional demeanor and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality are critical. May be called upon to work beyond standard business hours, including evenings and weekends. Attendance at major campus-related events will be critical, and some regional travel may be required. Solid understanding of, and appreciation for, advancing the mission of Sam Houston State University is critical.
