This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). This temporary position is located in Kinston - Lenoir County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 3055 Dobbs Farm Rd., Kinston, NC 28504.
This position will assist the Food service Supervisor to provide support of the facility's Child Nutrition Program and will ensurecompliancewiththeDepartments'FederalChildNutritionProgramregulationsby:
ProvidingnutritionallyadequatemealsmeetingtheFederalChildNutritionProgrampartners.
Maintaining required records, report, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulation.
Requisition food and supplies as needed.
Checking the cost and quality of items received and insure proper storage.
ComplyingwithpoliciesandproceduresoftheDepartment'AssuminganyresponsibilitiesasdesignatedbytheDetentionCenterCookIISupervisorand/orYouthDevelopment CenterFoodServiceSupervisorIVand/orimmediatesupervisor,facilityDirector,theChildNutritionProgram Administrator and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Knowledge of the methods of preparing meats, vegetables, and/or other foods in group quantities. Experience using various food service equipment including food processors and/or ovens.
Experienceinspectingincomingfreshvegetables,fruits,and/ormeatstodeterminethattheymeetpurchaseorder specifications.
Knowledgeofthecookingtimesandtemperaturesofvariousfoodsand/ormethodsofpreservingtheirflavor,food value, and/or safety.
Experience planning food for a large number of persons and/or requisitioning needed food items.
Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
