Duties

Help

  • Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading
  • Weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items
  • Sets up and replenishes food bar
  • Portions foods for distribution and meal service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures.
  • Washes and cleans kitchen equipment.
  • Mix ingredients according written recipes that produce quality products, minimize preparation time, and avoid food material waste.
  • Performs a full range of simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers and fresh or canned vegetables.
  • Prepares hot cereals, broiled meats
  • Prepares and cooks concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies; makes cold sandwich fillings.
  • Prepares convenience items such as frozen hash browns, fish fillets and chicken nuggets. Some cooks at this level prepare and bake pizza.
  • Operates full service coffee bar.
  • Prepares a wide range of drinks including but not limited to; lattes, espresso, Americana, and cappuccinos by selecting the proper grind of coffee shot and following set recipes for each individual variation of drink.
  • Prepares heats and serves made-to-order food menu items such as but not limited to: paninis, baguettes, hot dogs, and sandwiches while following all food handling requirements.
  • Must be able to follow basic cappuccino requirement of each type of drink including but not limited to; preheating the portafilter, knowing the difference in grinds of coffee, knowing how long should a shot take to brew into a cup, preheating the cup, how to "pull and "tamp" in to the portafilter, difference in frothing and steaming milk, and able to know difference and relay information to customers on the difference in drink choices.
  • Performs receiving and disbursing cashier duties. Sets up cappuccino bar for operation and obtains cash bank. Prepares documentation for cash funds accountability.

The area of consideration for this vacancy announcement is citizens, permanent residents, and legal residents of the United States (US) who reside within the local commuting area (60 mile radius) of RAF Croughton, United Kingdom (UK), or will do so within the next 30 days.

Permanent and legal residents of the US must be citizens of a NATO country, unless authorized to reside in the UK as a dependent of an employee who serves in support of the US Visiting Forces. Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK. Documentation could include PCS Orders, UK Visa, etc.

Applicants cannot be ordinarily resident. A person is considered to be ordinarily resident if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces. Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being ordinary resident.

In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens (including UK dual citizens) may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience (MUST BE SUPPORTED IN RESUME):

  • Must have experience in and knowledge of methods and procedures relating to food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work safely, and do simple arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment, characteristics of various foods, and the ability to season food and decide when foods are done is required.
  • Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food and beverages, and for cleaning equipment and work area.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

Additional information

  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 Investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from hiring preferences and priority consideration eligible.
