JOB GOAL:
Engage and actively support a positive Nutrition & Dining Services culture through leadership in your kitchen / building. Contributing daily amongst your team to assist in preparation of daily menu items meeting USDA and Illinois Board of Education guidelines. Understanding the importance of your individual role and consistently being a positive role model for our students.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists with training of new staff
- Accurately enters all student and district staff food purchases and payments
- Receives money for all food sales, prepares daily deposit and completes daily batch out and daily purchase report for designated building
- Actively monitors all building student and staff accounts; sending out Nutrition & Dining Services account balances to discuss balance information
- Maintains and submits daily cash count deposit sheet
- Utilizes, maintains and accurately uses daily production sheets recording daily usage and waste
- Organizes, prepares and serves food according to district recipe, ensuring USDA and Illinois Board of Education guidelines are met
- Ensures during meal periods proper meal counting practices are followed to meet Illinois Board of Education guidelines
- Maintains an organized and clean kitchen work area and pantry
- Maintains clean equipment (refrigerators, freezers, stove, oven and milk coolers). If needed submits work orders immediately for equipment repair
- Reviews weekly production sheets and communicates with Production Coordinator any items not needed with food delivery
- Maintains proper food, disposables and dry goods inventory levels, communicating with Assistant Cook to determine grocery items needed for week
- Receives daily food delivery, check for accuracy dating each item with delivery date; assist Assistant Cook with putting away all items received
- Assists with end of the month Inventory as required
- Communicates with Director of Nutrition & Dining Services any equipment or cooking supplies needed for building
- Follows USDA, Illinois Board of Education and Illinois Health Department policies and procedures to ensure a safe work and food environment
- Sets up and assists with washing daily dishes following Health Department Standards (K-12)
- Actively engages and fosters a positive culture of teamwork among all staff; is courteous and respectful to all students and district staff
- Consistently follows all Nutrition & Dining Services and District polices
- Completes yearly training requirements to meet minimum of 10 hours of Professional Standards as required by the USDA
- Actively participates and engages in all Nutrition & Dining Services trainings
- Communicates concerns with the Director of Nutrition & Dining Services regarding employees, production, quantity or quality of food issues
- Wears school issued uniform and District ID badge following Nutrition & Dining Services guidelines
- Performs other Nutrition & Dining Services related duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine months (174-180 days) classified position with salary and hours to be established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions established by the Board of Education
SALARY RANGE:
In accordance with the USW Negotiated Agreement - Starting wage $16.93 per hour based on the 2025-2026 union contract.
