Controls Engineer Sr Advisor
The Senior Engineering Advisor is a highly hands-on technical role responsible for supporting complex manufacturing systems across Graphic Packaging facilities. This position focuses on advanced troubleshooting, controls optimization, and real-time problem resolution, working directly on equipment and systems to restore performance and improve reliability. This role requires direct technical engagement and ownership, not delegation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead hands-on troubleshooting of automation and control systems across multiple facilities
Work directly within PLCs, drives, and machine control systems to resolve issues
Provide immediate technical support during critical downtime events
Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
Modify control logic, drive parameters, and system configurations
Collaborate with OEMs while maintaining ownership of technical solutions
Support startups, commissioning, and recovery efforts
Mentor engineers through direct, side-by-side troubleshooting
PLC programming, motion control, I/O systems, and machine sequencing
Advanced diagnostics and real-time system troubleshooting
Equipment Performance & Reliability:
Identify and resolve chronic equipment issues
Improve uptime through direct diagnostic work and system optimization
Implement long-term corrective solutions
Partner closely with plant teams to strengthen reliability practices
OEM & Vendor Collaboration:
Act as technical escalation point for OEMs and integrators
Review and challenge vendor solutions based on system behavior
Drive issue resolution to closure through direct engagement
Required Qualifications:
BA or equivalent + 15 yrs related experience; or MA + 13 yrs related experience or comparable combination of education/experience preferably in manufacturing or controls engineering
Deep hands-on expertise in PLCs, drives, and automation systems
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Travel: Up to 60% travel to support on-site troubleshooting, startups, and plant operations.
