Job Title: Controls Engineer – Rockwell 5000 Commissioning

Location: East Coast, United States (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract / Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with strong hands-on commissioning expertise to support automation and controls projects across the East Coast. The ideal candidate must have proven experience with Rockwell 5000 and commissioning controls systems within Material Handling Equipment (MHE) environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and commission PLC, HMI, and VFD systems.
  • Set motor protection and VFD parameters.
  • Verify motor rotations, belt tracking, MDR card settings, and power supplies.
  • Perform panel power-up activities and ensure PLC/device communication with assigned IP addresses.
  • Conduct field IO verification and validate E-stop installations per drawings.
  • Program CAN gateways and validate MDR functionality.
  • Complete commissioning checklists and support troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform HMI IO checks and base code functionality testing.
  • Validate material flow logic, jam detection, merge logic, and traffic control systems.
  • Ensure E-stop functionality and third-party PLC interlocks are properly integrated.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Rockwell 5000.
  • Proven controls commissioning experience in industrial automation environments.
  • Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems.
  • Strong PLC and HMI programming/troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of VFD configuration, IO testing, and industrial networking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in warehouse automation, conveyor systems, or distribution centers.
  • Ability to work independently during onsite commissioning activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
