Regional Travel Required (25–40%) – Chicago & Milwaukee Area

We are seeking a hands-on Controls / Automation Engineer to support capital projects, automation upgrades, and productivity improvements in a heavy manufacturing environment.

This role combines electrical controls, PLC troubleshooting, and mechanical support. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical systems, and supporting stamping presses or similar industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities
Install, wire, troubleshoot, and maintain:
PLC systems
HMIs
VFDs
Industrial control systems
Support stamping presses and automated production equipment
Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including:
Misalignments
Worn components
Hydraulic and pneumatic system issues
Perform mechanical adjustments and component replacements
Lead equipment commissioning and startup activities
Quickly resolve equipment failures to minimize downtime
Follow strict electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash)
Maintain and update electrical and mechanical documentation

Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology or related field preferred
Journeyman Electrician’s Card strongly preferred
1–3+ years of industrial experience in:
Electrical controls
PLC troubleshooting
Mechanical diagnostics
Experience working with 480V power and low-voltage controls
Basic PLC programming knowledge required
Willingness to travel between Chicago and Milwaukee facilities

Preferred Experience
Stamping press or heavy manufacturing experience
AutoCAD or similar design tools
Capital project support
Continuous improvement initiatives

Work Environment
Manufacturing facility environment
Exposure to production equipment and heavy machinery
Travel between regional plants required
