Job Summary:
Join our dynamic team as a Controls/Automation Engineer, where your expertise will be pivotal in executing comprehensive controls projects. This role encompasses concept development, research assistance, estimation, component selection, network and panel design, device troubleshooting, programming of PLCs and HMIs, on-site installations, debugging, and post-installation support. We seek a proactive individual with a solid foundation in controls engineering concepts and a strong commitment to continuous learning and advancement.
Essential Functions:
- Comprehend and apply knowledge of AC/DC control systems; interpret component specifications.
- Utilize design engineering software and PLC programming tools effectively.
- Diagnose system issues and communicate findings clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of successful control systems.
- Assist in creating electrical circuit layouts for power and control distribution.
- Participate in the generation of detailed schematic diagrams.
- Support project installations and startups through comprehensive checklists.
- Develop and correct electrical diagrams with precision and speed.
- Be a key team player, fostering communication and collaboration.
- Perform additional tasks as required to meet project objectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in various programming languages and control device networks for PLCs.
- Commitment to ongoing training and certification in relevant control technologies.
- Familiarity with controls, material handling, water and wastewater systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and multi-tasking capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and within team settings.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours to meet project demands.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering and Computer Science preferred) or equivalent work experience.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in controls or automation engineering.
- Experience in PLC programming, debugging, commissioning, hardware design, and using AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of electrical equipment and compliance with building codes like UL508a, NEC, and NFPA.
- Preferred experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, material handling, and familiarity with VFDs, servos, sensors, and vision systems.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to obtain facility security clearance if required.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and field settings with a collaborative and achievement-focused culture.
- Travel required for up to 50% of the time.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged sitting in office settings; standing and walking at job sites.
- Climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds may be necessary at job sites.
- Frequent typing and data entry tasks.
Work Schedule:
- Standard office hours are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm or 8 am to 5 pm, with flexibility required for job site work as per project needs.
