Position Overview 

The Controller is a key member of 10 Federal's accounting leadership team, responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls across the company's self-storage portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Accounting, this is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to develop and manage a high-performing team.

Responsibilities 

  • Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee property-level financial reporting and performance analysis across the 10 Federal portfolio.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes; monitor actuals against budget and communicate variances.
  • Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and banking relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax obligations; coordinate with external tax advisors.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors; coordinate audit preparation and resolve findings.
  • Partner with HR and Engage PEO to ensure payroll accuracy and proper financial recording.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team; manage workload and support professional growth.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in commercial real estate with open/closed ended Fund structures
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, advanced Excel Skill and forward thinking with automation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial data clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
