Job DetailsReporting directly to executive leadership, the Controller will oversee the accounting function, maintain strong internal controls, manage cash flow, and provide timely financial insights that support strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance day-to-day accounting responsibilities with higher-level financial planning and process improvement.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, analytical, and comfortable building scalable financial processes in a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and payroll-related accounting.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with GAAP.
- Review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain an effective chart of accounts and consistent accounting practices across multiple locations.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and analyze significant variances.
- Monitor financial performance, profitability, expenses, and key business trends.
- Develop dashboards and financial reports that provide leadership with actionable insights.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic planning and data-driven business decisions.
Cash Flow & Financial Management
- Monitor cash flow and maintain short- and long-term cash forecasts.
- Oversee banking activities, cash balances, and account reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes to support healthy working capital.
- Provide leadership with visibility into cash requirements, financial risks, and opportunities.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective accounting policies and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, auditors, and other financial partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation and financial records to support tax filings and external reviews.
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend appropriate controls.
Process & Systems Improvement
- Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities for greater accuracy and efficiency.
- Standardize financial procedures and reporting across multiple locations.
- Develop scalable workflows that support organizational expansion.
- Improve accounting systems, reporting tools, and financial dashboards.
- Establish documentation and best practices that strengthen the overall finance function.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and financial reporting standards.
- Partner closely with executive leadership and operational teams.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Serve as a trusted financial resource to leadership as the organization continues to grow.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting best practices.
- Experience working within a multi-location organization preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/financial management systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and growing environment.
- CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus.
