Controller
North Austin | Fully Onsite
$115,000 - $125,000 Base + 10-15% Bonus
We're partnering with a well-established, highly regarded investment firm in the commercial real estate space that's looking to add a hands-on Controller to their team.
This is a high-visibility role within a lean, tightly run organization where you'll work closely with leadership and have meaningful exposure across accounting, investor reporting, and day-to-day business operations.
What really sets this opportunity apart is the environment - a collaborative, low-ego team that values quality work without a burnout mentality. Expect a steady, manageable workload where people perform at a high level but aren't consistently working nights or weekends to keep up.
Why This Role Stands Out
Strong work-life balance - consistent, sustainable pace (not a 60-hour/week role)
Direct exposure to leadership in a highly visible position
Broad, hands-on role with real ownership and variety
Stable, established firm with long-tenured employees
Tight-knit team where your work is recognized and valued
Opportunity to be deeply involved in the business beyond just accounting
The Role
This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves position within a small team where you'll have ownership across key accounting and reporting functions while also supporting broader business initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing financial reporting across multiple corporate entities
Reviewing and consolidating information from third-party accounting partners
Supporting investor reporting and partnership activities
Assisting with distributions and ownership-level reporting
Coordinating with external CPA firms on tax preparation
Supporting cash management and day-to-day financial operations
Contributing to acquisition and investment-related accounting work
Partnering with leadership on ad hoc financial and operational initiatives
What They're Looking For
4-10 years of progressive accounting experience
Background in public accounting (audit strongly preferred)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Finance considered from strong programs)
Experience in small to mid-sized or entrepreneurial environments
Prior experience reviewing work and/or leading others
Strong understanding of financial statements and reporting
Track record of stable career progression (minimal job changes)
Someone who is adaptable, organized, and comfortable wearing multiple hats
Nice to Have
CPA or CPA-track
Real estate, investment, or financial services exposure
Experience working in founder-led or entrepreneurial environments
Systems
QuickBooks (this is a nimbler environment vs. large ERP-heavy)
Bill.com, Juniper Square and related financial tools
Culture & Environment
This is a small, high-performing office (approx. 25-30 people) with an entrepreneurial, team-first mindset.
You'll succeed here if you:
Are easy to work with and low ego
Take ownership without needing heavy structure
Are comfortable in a fast-moving, evolving environment
Enjoy being part of a collaborative, close-knit team
Leadership is actively involved, and the team values accountability, flexibility, and professionalism - without unnecessary bureaucracy.
What This Role Is NOT
Not a pure property accounting role
Not a large corporate or highly bureaucratic environment
Not managing a big team
Not overly structured or process-heavy
Not hybrid - this is fully onsite
If you're currently an Accounting Manager or strong Senior Accountant with a public accounting foundation and looking for a role where you can have real impact, visibility, and balance - this is a strong opportunity to step into a well-rounded Controller position in a great environment.
