About the Role

As a CBRE Control Systems Engineer, you will provide proactive automation controls and technical support across the client campus in Fremont, which includes a mix of office space, conference rooms, labs, and clean rooms.

This role will work alongside the current Building Automation Systems Engineer to expand coverage. The team currently manages alarms, data collection, and system assessments, then routes issues to HVAC technicians for repair or handles lower-complexity items directly (or via OSPs) so HVAC techs can focus on troubleshooting. This role is designed to take on the day-to-day, lower-complexity workload - hot calls, VAV issues, minor boiler/chiller alarms, and quick resets or assessments - freeing the senior Building Automation Systems Engineer to focus on wider-scope projects, equipment, and BMS coordination (energy assessments, upgrades, capital projects).

You will split time roughly 70% in the field and 30% supporting the senior Building Automation Systems Engineer, and will serve as his backup when he is offsite - including representing the team at daily operations meetings with the CBRE team, and communicating confidently and clearly with GWS engineers and outside service providers (OSPs).

What You'll Do

  • Review daily trackers and the alarm summary each morning to prioritize the day's work, with a backup plan for additional capacity.
  • Handle hot calls, VAV issues, and minor boiler/chiller alarms - resetting, assessing, or resolving quickly to keep items off the senior engineer's and HVAC techs' plates.
  • Work closely with the internal operations team in supporting systems optimization and project implementation.
  • Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot material handling and building control systems, including BMS platforms (e.g., MSTP, TSPIP, or similar - training provided on the specific system in use).
  • Monitor metrics and partner with the maintenance and operations teams for system performance issues and provide an evaluation of data.
  • Serve as point of contact for escalation support during and after business hours. Troubleshoot locally and remotely and repair hardware or control software systems within the building.
  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters for support to restore equipment operation.
  • Facilitate review of processes and implement improvements.
  • Conduct and review system assessments to understand material handling system performance.
  • Partner with management, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate new technology installations.
  • Serve as backup to the senior Building Automation Systems Engineer, including representing the team at daily CBRE operations meetings and communicating with GWS engineers and OSPs when he is offsite.
  • Utilize network support resources for guidance and assistance, and aid peers as needed.
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines with building management, operations, and the maintenance team. Explain production impacts.

What You'll Need

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 4-5 years of job-related experience; a combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of a diploma. Prior shift management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with BMS systems and troubleshooting.
  • At least 1 year of exposure to BMS platforms (e.g., MSTP, TSPIP, or similar) - specific system experience not required, as systems are similar and training is provided.
  • Basic HVAC understanding, including VAVs, constant and variable controls, and how they interact with BMS systems.
  • Strong communication skills - this role will represent the team in daily operations meetings and interact directly with GWS engineers and OSPs.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Willingness to take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
  • Sophisticated math skills - ability to calculate mildly complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
