Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a full-time Control Room Operator Supervisor to join our Electric Production department. This position directs the daily operation of the local electric generating facilities.

The Control Room Operator Supervisor works under general supervision of the Power Plant Superintendent.

- Full-time, FLSA Exempt position.
- Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. $99,820 - $136,896.
- Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm with an hour lunch.

Responsibilities:
- Shares responsibility for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the Electric Production Department. Assists in the planning of operation and maintenance of electric production, planning and scheduling of major projects-maintenance, new additions, and engineering.
- Responsible for making daily generation and load forecasts used to purchase energy from the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) on behalf of CFU, in both the day-ahead and real time electricity markets. Assists with making decisions to start generation assets based on MISO day ahead and real time electricity markets.
- Assists in coordinating activities in the different areas of maintenance, operation, and engineering. Shares responsibility with the Maintenance Supervisor for the maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
- Supervises the operating employees in this department, including operating manpower schedules. Conducts performance reviews. Coaches, counsels, and monitors the work performance of employees to achieve productivity. Responsible for documenting and verification of working hours for payroll distribution. Ensures employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their jobs. Coordinates schedules and reviews operating employee vacations and requests for days off.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, coworkers, and management.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school, including or supplemented by courses in mechanics, marine power and electricity.
Experience:
- 5 years experience in power plant operation and maintenance and demonstrated leadership skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: The operation and maintenance of boilers, motors, pumps, fans, switches, auxiliary machinery, equipment, and tools used in the electric generating facilities particularly high and low pressure steam power plants. Knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity, water, and steam chemistry, energy conversion (including fuels and combustion), lubrication, heat transfer and related power plant thermodynamics. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in plant operations.
- Ability to: Effectively and efficiently plan and supervise the work of others. Ability to instruct, train, and motivate employees. Maintain effective relations with coworkers and subordinates. Good leadership and professional judgment. Ability to act with confidence and decision in responding promptly to emergencies. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal departments, vendors, and outside contractors. Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:
- Majority of work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. Possible exposure to dangerous machinery, potentially dangerous situations, extreme weather conditions, and hazardous chemicals. Occasional use of general production equipment such as dump trucks, forklifts, and power tools. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
