TRUMPF is seeking an experienced Contract Smart Factory Sales Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between our Machine Tool & TruServices sales teams and TRUMPF’s sheet metal fabrication operations here in Farmington Connecticut.

In this role, you will support sales by providing sales engineering expertise, developing accurate cost estimates, and ensuring customer requirements can be successfully executed in the TRUMPF Smart Factory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Machine Tool & TruServices, Regional sales teams, and sales representatives to evaluate customer RFQs (Requests for Quote), assess technical feasibility, and develop competitive proposals
  • Translate customer specifications and drawings into Smart Factory solutions, identifying any Design for Sheet metal fabrication concerns early in the process
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, tooling, and overhead for Smart Factory Solutions
  • Conduct on-site and virtual customer meetings to present Smart Factory solutions and address engineering questions during the pre-sale phase
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams to validate lead times and capacity commitments made in proposals
  • Review and redline customer contracts, statements of work, and technical specifications to ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities
  • Support order handoff to engineering and production teams, ensuring a smooth transition from sale to fulfillment
  • Maintain and update quoting tools, pricing templates, and technical documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment, with exposure to sales engineering or estimating
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Hands-on knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, punching, forming, bending, welding, and painting
  • Strong cost estimating and quoting experience
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical concepts for both engineering and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Prior experience in a contract manufacturing or job-shop environment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines
