Requirements
Position Overview
We are seeking a Building Envelope Consultant to provide technically sound solutions for existing building envelope failures and deliver innovative recommendations for new construction and rehabilitation projects. This role serves property owners, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders by evaluating building performance, designing repairs and improvements, and managing projects from investigation through construction.
The ideal candidate will have experience with building envelope systems, project management, forensic investigations, and construction administration, along with strong technical writing and client relationship skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete design assignments related to building upgrades, maintenance, restoration, and rehabilitation of existing structures, as well as building envelope components for new construction projects.
- Investigate and diagnose failures in existing building envelope systems and develop effective repair solutions.
- Conduct constructability reviews and third-party peer reviews of plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Manage building envelope projects and multidisciplinary teams for both new and existing construction, ensuring quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) throughout project delivery.
- Perform failure investigations and condition assessments of commercial and residential buildings and provide litigation support when required.
- Research building histories, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements, including historical and current code provisions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
- Prepare technical reports, condition assessments, repair designs, bid documents, specifications, addenda, change orders, and related construction documentation.
- Conduct site visits, field observations, and construction phase services.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen client relationships through exceptional service and technical expertise.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of commercial and residential building envelope systems and appropriate material selection based on project requirements.
- Knowledge of the design, construction, evaluation, and repair of:
- Glazing systems
- Cladding assemblies
- Insulation systems
- Air barrier systems
- Roofing systems
- Waterproofing systems
- Ability to develop construction details and technical specifications using applicable building codes and ADA requirements.
- Experience researching and interpreting current and historical building codes, zoning requirements, and industry standards.
- Ability to assess and evaluate building performance and identify deficiencies.
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Building envelope design
- Building envelope investigations
- Construction document preparation
- Construction administration services
- Building construction project management
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Strong report writing skills and demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, scopes, and schedules.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and internal teams.
- Strong critical thinking and sound professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
- Experience with forensic investigations, expert witness support, or litigation-related projects.
- Experience performing condition assessments and rehabilitation design for existing structures.
The Salary Range for this position is $83,000 - $124,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL
Physical Demands – Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
Overtime – This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
