Construction Safety Manager Traveling

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Safety Manager to lead and administer comprehensive safety programs on active construction sites. This role serves as the primary safety advisor, ensuring full compliance with safety standards by project teams, employees, and subcontractors.

The position is primarily based in the field, working directly on job sites, with occasional travel for meetings, training sessions, and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and lead all safety efforts on large-scale projects with a workforce exceeding 250 personnel or involving high-hazard work
• Promote a strong, proactive safety culture across all project teams
• Ensure contractor activities are preplanned with safety in mind through scope reviews, preconstruction meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safety Task Analyses (STAs)
• Ensure contractors meet all safety submittal requirements and comply with established safety plans and expectations
• Maintain all safety-related documentation, reports, and records
• Identify hazardous conditions and recommend corrective actions to protect employee health and safety
• Utilize safety management systems to audit and monitor implementation of project safety plans
• Conduct regular site inspections, including a minimum of 15 monthly inspections with detailed observations
• Provide safety training to project teams on company, client, and OSHA requirements
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses; complete required documentation and reporting
• Ensure project teams have appropriate safety equipment and resources available
• Serve as liaison with insurance carriers and manage related project correspondence
• Coach and mentor less experienced safety team members
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable work environment

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred
• Minimum 5+ years of construction safety management experience
• Professional safety certification (e.g., BCSP credentials) preferred
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, methods, and regulations
• Working knowledge of OSHA standards and compliance requirements
• Ability to identify risks and implement effective corrective actions
• Experience with safety management and auditing systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teams
