Job Title: Construction Planner I
Location: San Diego, CA
Duration: 6 Months
Pay Rate: $30 - $33/hour on W2
 
 
Job Summary
The Construction Planner I supports construction and project management activities related to Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network infrastructure. This role is responsible for field engineering, route design, permitting, cost estimation, project coordination, and construction planning to support voice, video, and data services for residential and commercial customers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Performs field engineering of proposed projects and ensures alternative routing delivers the most cost-effective design for construction.
  • Plans, coordinates, constructs, builds, repairs, and inspects Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks.
  • Coordinates all customer implementation activities, including site walk-throughs, node placements, and subcontractor labor.
  • Coordinates contractor activities and obtains permits, access agreements, and Right-of-Way (ROW) approvals as required.
  • Distributes design prints and other project documentation.
  • Negotiates and approves design or construction modifications.
  • Researches and reviews project plans and gathers data to determine material requirements.
  • Coordinates with public works personnel, developers, commercial customers, building owners, and utility companies on joint trench projects.
  • Maintains workflow databases and updates project schedules.
  • Participates in forecasting project costs, material planning, and capital and expense budgeting.
  • Estimates construction, labor, and material costs and tracks project expenses.
  • Verifies serviceability and surveys proposed service routes.
  • Initiates customer contact and secures access or ROW agreements when required.
  • Completes route designs and implements solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinates with utilities regarding permits, joint trench activities, pole applications, and service-related issues.
  • May order materials and coordinate with administrative personnel.
  • May verify and reconcile project invoices.
  • May plan and allocate fiber resources for splicing and activation.
  • May inspect construction work or coordinate inspection activities.
  • Releases addresses as serviceable and communicates serviceability updates to internal departments.
  • Closes completed projects in company databases and tools.
  • Reconciles project assets and generates reports to ensure accurate project closure.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in construction planning, telecommunications, utility construction, or project coordination
  • Strong PC and computer application skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of GO-95 and GO-128 standards
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Preferred Skills
  • Construction planning and project coordination experience
  • Knowledge of telecommunications or utility construction environments
  • Experience working with permits, ROW agreements, and utility coordination
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
