Description


The Construction Operations Training Manager is responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering hands-on training programs that promote industry best practices, strengthen operational performance, and support retention across construction operations. This role partners closely with Operations leaders, Project Superintendents, Equipment teams, and industry partners to ensure operator and field leadership development aligns with company standards and evolving workforce needs.

Key Responsibilities


  • Operator Training & Compliance
    • Ensure all new operators complete and document required training prior to operating equipment.
    • Design, evaluate, and continuously improve operator training programs to align with current equipment models, safety standards, and operational best practices.
    • Develop and implement tools (such as scorecards and assessments) to measure comprehension and demonstrate skill competency.
    • Maintain accurate training documentation and compliance records.
  • Training Team Leadership (Train the Trainer)
    • Supervise and develop Training Coordinators, identifying areas of equipment mastery and instructional growth.
    • Establish performance expectations and accountability standards for the training team.
    • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and in-field support to ensure consistent, high-quality training delivery.
    • Oversee OEM and industry-recognized certifications, as well as each coordinator’s adult education capabilities
    • Develop and monitor performance metrics to measure team effectiveness and program impact.
    • Evaluate the training delivery model and recommend improvements to Talent Development leadership.
  • Field Leadership Development
    • Partner with the Training Advisory Committee and Operations leadership to design and execute leadership development programming for field personnel.
    • Develop an engaging curriculum that supports all division scopes and operational disciplines.
    • Coordinate and facilitate Foreman, Engineer, and related field leadership training programs.
    • Manage logistics for training sessions, including subject matter experts, locations, materials, hands-on activities, and scheduling.
    • Design creative and engaging, high-quality training experiences that employees are motivated and excited to attend.
  • Operator Development & Advancement
    • Collaborate with Project Superintendents and Operations leaders to assess operator performance and identify development opportunities.
    • Create pathways for advanced skill development.
    • Coach high-performing operators through advanced certifications in partnership with industry organizations.
    • Monitor key performance indicators, including safety, retention, turnover, and productivity to evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Operational & Strategic Initiatives
    • Identify workforce skill gaps and proactively recommend training initiatives to address operational needs.
    • Utilize safety data, incident trends, and performance analytics to inform responsive training solutions.
    • Support special construction operations initiatives that require structured skill development or cross-functional training coordination.
    • Maintain strong relationships with industry training partners and external organizations to strengthen program credibility and effectiveness.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and managing hands-on training programs.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage field-based employees in practical, skills-focused learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and design engaging, high-quality training experiences that employees are motivated and excited to attend.
  • Experience coaching and developing adult learners in operational or performance-driven settings
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with operations leaders, field personnel, and industry partners.
  • High level of organization and logistical coordination skills, including scheduling, documentation, and training event management.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience tracking metrics, compliance, and training effectiveness.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to jobsites.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Workforce Development, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred: Experience in heavy civil construction and/or industrial construction, equipment operations, or construction field operations environments
