Construction Worker

The Construction Technician is responsible for supporting commercial construction projects through hands-on work in carpentry, concrete, and general site operations. This role assists with framing, forming, concrete placement, material handling, and jobsite preparation while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. The ideal candidate has construction experience, enjoys working outdoors, and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform general construction labor, including site preparation, cleanup, and material handling.
• Assist carpenters and concrete crews with daily project activities to maintain productivity and project schedules.
• Build, set, align, and remove concrete forms according to project specifications.
• Mix, pour, place, and finish concrete for commercial construction projects.
• Complete rough and finish carpentry tasks, including framing, installation, repairs, and construction support.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
• Measure, cut, and assemble construction materials using hand tools and power tools.
• Load, unload, and organize materials, equipment, and tools on active jobsites.
• Operate basic construction equipment and tools safely and effectively.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and jobsite requirements.
• Maintain dependable attendance, a strong work ethic, and a team-focused attitude.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of construction experience, including commercial construction, concrete, carpentry, steel erection, or general labor.
• Experience with framing, concrete work, drywall installation, finish carpentry, or related construction activities.
• Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and drawings.
• Proficient in using a tape measure and performing accurate measurements.
• Experience safely operating hand tools and power tools.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work effectively on a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial construction experience.
• Experience supporting both concrete and carpentry crews.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety practices and construction site procedures.
• Willingness to learn new skills and advance within the construction industry.

Work Environment

• Commercial construction jobsites throughout the local area.
• Monday–Friday schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Work performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical role requiring standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and repetitive use of tools.
• Team-oriented environment with crews ranging from 3–10 employees.
• Required PPE includes work boots, safety glasses, hard hat, high-visibility clothing, and other safety equipment as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waterloo, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
