Construction Inspector

The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Construction Inspector to join a talented capital project management team in one of Virginia's most beautiful and robust Park systems. The Planning and Capital Projects Division delivers first class projects on time and within budget on a robust set of projects ranging from cyclical maintenance to full park design, natural and cultural resource protection, and construction. The position requires a candidate who will successfully perform and ensure quality control and quality assurance during the project construction phase of projects. The position requires the inspector to be on-site at various construction sites to coordinate activities to ensure the successful completion of projects. The inspector will promote a healthy work environment on site among the design professional, prime contractor and subcontractors and perform good record keeping and documentation of records. The work involves a wide variety of complex projects that require coordination, monitoring, and control to ensure they are on schedule and under budget.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of relevant construction experience.

Preferences:

  • Certifications in construction materials, asphalt, soils, concrete, masonry and structural steel.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD and PM Software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while providing construction oversight.
  • Great communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of reading construction plans, specifications, and construction cost estimation.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computers and construction related management software.

Special Requirements:

The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV record checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older.

Physical requirements:

Position requires the following but not limited to climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.

Work Schedule:

7.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., M – F, with flexibility to adjust the schedule based on project specific and site activities. Weekend and night work may be necessary due to specific project requirements.

Hiring Salary Range: $30.64 - $36.05
