Project Scope
This role supports a large-scale construction initiative at an active manufacturing facility in Newark, DE. The project includes a major building expansion, construction of three new buildings on the existing property, and relocation of a retention pond. All construction activities will take place while the manufacturing facility remains live and operational.
The Construction EHS Manager will oversee general contractors and subcontractors across all trades, ensuring strict compliance with safety standards while maintaining progress on a complex, multi-phase project. The environment requires heightened awareness, proactive hazard mitigation, and the ability to balance safety enforcement with operational demands.
Qualifications
OSHA 500 or 510 certification (minimum requirement)
3+ years of construction safety experience
Strong electrical safety background
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E
Experience supporting construction at a live manufacturing facility (highly preferred)
Additional Requirements
Comfortable operating as both a safety enforcer and safety coach
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to push back on internal stakeholders and contractors when necessary
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee safety performance of general contractors and subcontractors across all construction trades
- Enforce site-specific safety plans, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Conduct daily site walks, hazard assessments, and safety audits
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and project-specific EHS standards
- Act as the primary safety point of contact for construction leadership and site management
- Identify unsafe behaviors and conditions and implement corrective actions
