A well-established and rapidly growing construction and building materials organization is seeking a Construction Accountant to join its corporate accounting team in Annapolis, Maryland.

Position Overview


The Construction Accountant will be responsible for project accounting, job cost analysis, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting support. This role will work closely with project managers and operational leaders to ensure financial accuracy and provide meaningful insight into project performance.


Key Responsibilities



  • Prepare and maintain job cost reports and project accounting schedules

  • Analyze project costs, budgets, commitments, and change orders

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Monitor project profitability and work-in-progress reporting

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Partner with operations teams to review project performance and cost trends

  • Assist with audits and financial reporting requirements

  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting and reporting processes


Qualifications


Required



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 2+ years of accounting experience

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities


Preferred



  • Construction, project-based, manufacturing, or job-cost accounting experience

  • Experience with Sage

  • Experience with Procore

  • Familiarity with work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and project accounting
