This position is a non-federal role funded through an existing agreement between NRCS and NEW Solutions. The enrollee will provide direct support to farmers and landowners, enabling the implementation of conservation practices on the ground. This role contributes to NRCS's mission by enhancing capacity in field offices and ensuring timely assistance to producers. It is designed to free up NRCS staff for emergency and high-priority responses, not to replace federal staff.

This role helps ensure continued progress on conservation planning, practice implementation, and technical assistance, especially in high-demand or disaster-affected areas. It aligns with the Administration's priorities for farmer-first, field-facing, and partner-enabled capacity expansion.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Conservation planning or Agribusiness Management. OR BA/BS Degree in Plant or Soil Science, Agronomy, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, General Agriculture, Agribusiness Management.

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • NRCS business tools (e.g., ProTracts, Conservation Desktop, Conservation Assessment Ranking Tool, National Easement Staging Tool, etc.).
Duties:

Assist the Programs team at the Richmond State Office with the current Farm Bill workload. This position will also occasionally assist with the current needs of the State Conservationist and the Management and Strategy team as it relates to financial and programmatic tasks.

  • Program Support: Working with customers, preparing correspondence, organizing supplies and other miscellaneous program support. Assisting with gathering documents related to data calls and financial and programmatic audits. Preparing reports based on requests for statistical or informative material regarding NRCS programs, obtaining information from tracking software, files, and through knowledge of technical staff.   50%
  • Contract Management: Farm bill eligibility, application and contract document management, data input for off-site easement monitoring.   45%
  • Meetings: Occasional attendance and recording of minutes.   5%
