Job Title: Concrete Batch Plant Operator
Department: Concrete Operations Reports To: Concrete Site Supervisor / General Manager of Concrete Operations FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Position Summary
The Concrete Batch Plant Operator is responsible for operating the concrete batch plant through computer‑based batching systems to produce quality concrete according to approved mix designs, customer specifications, and company standards. This position requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment. The Batch Plant Operator must work closely with dispatch, drivers, loader operators, and plant personnel to ensure accurate, timely, and safe concrete production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Operate the concrete batch plant using computer‑based batching software, including Command Alkon systems, to batch concrete accurately and efficiently
- Input, monitor, and adjust mix designs, quantities, and batching sequences through the batching system as required
- Monitor moisture, water adjustments, and material measurements to maintain concrete quality and consistency
- Track production data, batching activity, and system alerts using the batching software interface
- Communicate with dispatch and drivers regarding load status, production timing, and batching issues
- Coordinate with loader operators to ensure adequate material supply for uninterrupted batching
- Identify and report batching errors, system alerts, or production issues promptly
- Maintain accurate electronic and manual production records as required
- Perform routine system checks and basic troubleshooting of batching software and plant controls
- Assist with returned concrete management and cleanup procedures as directed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe batch plant control room and surrounding areas
- Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and safety procedures at all times
- Assist with general plant operations, housekeeping, and support tasks as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned or required based on operational needs
Computer and Technical Skills Required
- Ability to operate computer‑based batching systems for concrete production
- Experience using or ability to learn Command Alkon batching and plant control software
- Comfortable working with multiple screens, system prompts, alerts, and production data
- Basic computer skills including keyboarding, mouse use, data entry, and navigating software menus
- Ability to learn and follow software‑driven production workflows and procedures
Work Schedule and Availability
- Ability to work irregular, extended, and weather‑dependent hours typical of concrete production and delivery
- Must be available for early mornings, late evenings, overtime, weekends, and occasional long or split days based on customer demand and production schedules
- Work hours may change with little notice due to job demands, equipment issues, weather conditions, or peak delivery periods
- Flexibility and reliability are essential to support the concrete delivery operation
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Prior experience as a concrete batch plant operator or similar production role preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work outdoors and in plant environments as needed
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
