Description

Located in Ferndale, WA, Transition Composites Manufacturing (TCM) is a specialized manufacturer of advanced composite structures and components serving the aerospace, defense, firearms, unmanned systems, medical, and industrial sectors. From prototype development and low-volume production to complex structural assemblies, TCM delivers high-performance composite solutions utilizing advanced manufacturing methods including prepreg molding, RTM, compression molding, CNC machining, and precision finishing. TCM partners with leading OEMs and innovators to provide lightweight, durable, and production-ready composite components built to demanding quality and performance standards.

 

Position Overview

Performs tasks related to advanced composite part manufacturing, including prepreg layup, molding, bonding, trimming, assembly, finishing, and inspection of composite components and assemblies.

 

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Be able to work safely on a team and contribute to the manufacturing process
  • Be able to learn how to inspect parts and processes, to ensure compliance with industry requirements and ensure quality in the manufacturing of products
  • Be able to use simple hand tools such as scissors, razor knives, tape measures, and sanding blocks
  • Must be able to read and strictly adhere to written work instructions and detailed processes
  • Be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Be able to perform simple math calculations related to composite manufacturing
  • Be able to operate composite manufacturing equipment such as ply cutters, platen presses, curing ovens, autoclaves, panel saws, and table saws
  • Be able to learn to operate curing equipment like ovens and autoclaves
  • Be able to work with materials like fiberglass, carbon fiber, epoxy resins, and honeycomb core
  • Be able to work in dusty environments, sometimes hot conditions, or around solvents and chemical vapors
  • Perform material consolidation and molding preparation processes for composite manufacturing methods including prepreg molding, bladder molding, compression molding, and RTM operations
  • Perform adhesive bonding to create assemblies and subassemblies
  • Lay-out precise measurements by hand for trimming and assembly
  • Trim and drill parts to within specified tolerances using power tools like routers, drills, grinders, and sanders


Education, Certifications, and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience
  • 1 -2 years of composite layup experience preferred but not required

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Working conditions are normal for that of a manufacturing facility or warehouse, including exposure to dust, noise, elevated temperatures, adhesives, solvents, and composite materials.
  • Requires standing for extended periods, repetitive hand work, and regular use of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move materials, tooling, or equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Candidates must be willing to work overtime, extended shifts, or adjusted schedules as needed to support production demands and customer delivery schedules.
  • All employees are expected to adhere to Transition Composites Manufacturing’s safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing applicable tasks or entering designated work areas.
