Composite Mold Preparation Technician

Department: Mold Maintenance
Reports To: Department Head

A day in this role

You start your shift by reviewing the production schedule for carbon fiber and fiberglass parts serving automotive, medical, and defense customers. Molds cycle out of the autoclave and into your care: you unload, reset, and ready them for the next run so operations keep moving without a hitch. Quality and readiness are your north stars.

What you will handle

  • Unload molds and cured composite parts from autoclaves, and stage them for post-cure work.
  • Remove and dispose of consumable bagging and other layup materials safely and cleanly.
  • Disassemble tooling using hand tools (wrenches, impact drivers) to access surfaces and components.
  • Prepare tool faces with sandpaper and other abrasives to achieve clean, uniform surfaces.
  • Perform minor repairs using resins and fiberglass to correct nicks, pinholes, and small defects.
  • Release composite parts from tools using compressed air and non-metallic implements to avoid damage.
  • Thoroughly clean molds and apply appropriate release agents to ensure the next layup separates cleanly.
  • Keep your workstation orderly and safe; uphold 5S/housekeeping expectations.
  • Follow all documented quality procedures, work instructions, and company policies.

About the work and environment

This position is central to keeping molds production-ready, aligned with quality standards, and enabling efficient throughput across programs.

What you bring

  • Background in manufacturing, composites, or tooling/mold maintenance (preferred).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a steady hand for precision tasks.
  • Strong time management to hit production deadlines.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, occasionally demanding setting.
  • Clear communicator and dependable teammate with solid organizational habits.
  • Self-starter with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when production requires it.
  • Willingness to cross-train and take on changing responsibilities.

Physical requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Repetitive use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Lift 20+ lbs; heavier molds are lifted with assistance or equipment.

Additional information

This role may require employees to perform duties outside of their primary responsibilities as needed to support business operations.

Compliance

  • Reliable transportation and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
