The Compliance Coordinator, working under the direction of the Associate Director of Regulatory Compliance, performs activities in support of the integration of the Compliance Program throughout the organization. This individual supports the department's initiatives to raise awareness about the organization's Compliance Program through the application of core compliance elements including but not limited to; education and training, detecting and preventing potential compliance violations, investigating reported concerns, evaluating conflict of interest, ongoing review and interpretation of laws and regulations, developing policy and procedures. In addition, the collaboration with legal counsel, providers and practice association representatives will be essential to the success of the compliance program initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews healthcare laws and regulations as published to ensure the department is up to date on the most current information.
  • Reviews and updates compliance education and training content, as needed. Ensures required training is completed timely and satisfactorily for staff. Periodically reviews reports to identify areas of improvement with completion compliance.
  • Participates in presenting the fundamentals of healthcare compliance to newly hired employees during new employee orientation.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepares agenda topics and presents information on regulatory and healthcare compliance updates at the compliance liaisons meeting.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field preferred, or equivalent education and work experience may be considered
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related work experience in healthcare compliance, basic knowledge of compliance education and training, basic knowledge of coding and billing
  • Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) to be attained within 1-2 years of employment.

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidates geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
