DESCRIPTION

The City of Corona is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Community Services Leader to join our team.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping others, committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and motivated by work that directly supports and engages the public. As a key point of contact for community members, you will provide exceptional customer service, assist with administrative and field-based duties, and help ensure that residents, visitors, and businesses receive timely, professional support.

Availability to work in any of the following areas:

  • Kids Club: Oversight of school-age children (6-12yrs old) in afterschool and day camp settings. Leads activities, programs, and provides customer service to parents and caregivers.
  • Sports: Coaching, officiating, and scorekeeping for various youth and adult sports activities.
  • Senior Center: Program and reception duties including phones, setting up rooms, providing resource information to patrons, and general customer service.
  • Program & Reservations (Circle City Center): Program and reception duties including phones, activity registration and permits, set-up/tear-down rooms, and facility monitoring for onsite and offsite reservations.
  • Parks: Assist with processing, approving, and posting of park permits. Schedules outdoor facility use.
  • THIS POSITION REQUIRES HAVING TO WORK NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND MANDATORY HOLIDAYS.*

Knowledge, Education & Experience

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and completion of formal or informal education sufficient to ensure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.

  • At least 15 years of age and possess the ability to read and write at the level required for success job performance. Paid and volunteer experience working in a community setting is desired. Ability to acquire a work permit (if under 18).

  • A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy may be required if driving.

Skills/Abilities

  • Plans, coordinates, organizes, prepares and supervises various activities and recreation programs, excursions, and special events for youth, adult, and senior populations.

  • Coaches, officiates and prepares play areas and fields for sports activities.

  • Acts as liaison to parents, patrons, and participants. Exercises tact and judgment when resolving problems.

  • Opens and closes City facilities; ensures facilities are secure. Oversees and monitors facility use and rentals, including after-hours and evening use.

  • Performs general labor tasks to maintain City facilities in a clean, safe and attractive condition.

  • Assists in preparing rooms for programs by setting up tables, chairs, audiovisual, computers and related equipment.

  • Sorts, retrieves, and re-shelves library materials. Performs shelf reading for accuracy and ensures that materials are in proper order.

  • Enforces and follows all rules and regulations and reports all safety conditions and security issues. Completes accident/incident reports, attendance reports, and shift reports.

  • Processes activity registration, account creation, permits, passport applications, simple cashiering and other transactions.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager.

The Citys total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 935 dedicated employees who provide high-quality services to its residents and visitors each day.

Temporary/part-time employment status does not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law.

The City does not belong to the Social Security system. Therefore, enrollment in the Nationwide PST 457 retirement program is mandatory and requires a contribution of 7.5% of base earnings. The City contributes 1.3% and the employee contributes 6.2% of base earnings.

Most part-time shifts for temporary/part-time employees must not exceed 999 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). If an employee is an active CalPERS member they may work up to 28 hours per week.

There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
