Job Description

Performs a variety of tasks in direct support of law enforcement activities. Responds to Police dispatch-based calls for service, conducts investigations, and writes reports for calls not requiring Police Officer presence, including minor motor vehicle collisions, parking violations, and minor criminal incidents. As necessary, works with Police Officers and City employees to investigate various crimes, direct traffic, and assist with other police department activities. Responsible for generating self-initiated activities such as locating abandoned vehicles, parking violations, and assisting stranded motorists.

Additional duties may include oversight of the body-worn camera system, all body-worn camera, and Taser products, including Evidence.com and redactions. Oversight of the drone program to include equipment and training of personnel, or any other related tasks as assigned (by assignment).

Essential Functions

  • Patrols areas of the City to enforce parking violations or abandoned vehicles.
  • Investigates and reports on minor criminal violations with no suspect information or are delayed in reporting.
  • Responds to assist on-duty officers in directing traffic at accident scenes and special events.
  • Helps secure the scene of a crime.
  • Works with City and department personnel at community events.
  • Responds to and assists stranded motorists within the City.
  • Provides equipment and resources to on-duty officers as requested by supervisors.
  • Assists with duties of an Animal Control Officer or Park Ranger, as needed.
  • Assists the public by providing directions and answering general questions.
  • Provide security assistance in patrolling exterior city parking lots, as required.
  • Responds to and conducts minor traffic collision investigations.
  • Oversees the department's drone program, including the maintenance, accountability, deployment, and operational readiness of all drone hardware and related equipment. This includes coordinating drone assignments for operational needs, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and department policies, scheduling and documenting required training and certifications for drone personnel, and maintaining proficiency standards for pilots and support staff (by assignment).
  • Oversees the department's body-worn camera program, conducted energy weapon (Taser) equipment, and digital evidence management systems, including Evidence.com, to include maintaining accountability and operational readiness of assigned equipment, coordinating equipment deployment and replacement, ensuring compliance with department policy and applicable legal requirements, and managing the storage, retention, organization, and release of digital evidence (by assignment).
  • Completes video and audio redactions for public records requests, court disclosures, and investigative needs while ensuring compliance with privacy laws, evidentiary standards, and records retention requirements (by assignment).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required.

One (1) year of public contact or customer service experience, preferably in a law enforcement, security, detention, or related position.

Valid Arizona Operator's Driver's License.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must complete and pass a training program conducted by the Avondale Police Department within twelve (12) months of hire.

Required to pass and obtain Part 107 Drone Operator License within 6 months (by assignment).

Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph.

May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
