    Description of Work

    The primary purpose of the Community Employment Specialist (Vocational Evaluator) position is to conduct established work studies for all individuals seeking potential employment or individuals that already have meaningful employment at MDC according to Federal Wage and Hour Regulations & Departmental protocol. Work studies are conducted every 6 months after individuals are employed to be paid fair and or competitive wages. This position is located within the Campus Worker Program.


    ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

    Recruitment Range: $34,270.00 - $59,973.00

    Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

    The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

    • Experience using behavior management techniques, task analysis techniques, and teaching strategies for individuals with I/DD

      and oversight to individuals with I/DD to include completion of classroom/work tasks.

    • Knowledge of the effects of physical effects of physical and mental disabilities on employment options

    • Knowledge of Federal Wage and Hour Laws

    • Knowledge of Competitive Integrated Employment

    The applicant will be required to successfully complete the Murdoch Developmental Center “Basic Training Series”; which includes, but is not limited to program library training, First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques (NVCI), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.  Applicants must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.

    Work Schedule 8:00am - 4:30pm

    Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area.  Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).  Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities.
