Job Description Summary
The Community Education Health Services and Clinical Research Nurse at Texas Southern University will play a vital role in improving community health outcomes through community education as well as development and implementation of preventive health services and clinical research activities. This position bridges clinical care, research, and community engagement by delivering culturally responsive education, supporting research protocols, and collaborating with healthcare providers, researchers, and community partners.

Essential Duties Summary
Community Education & Outreach
• Develop and deliver health education programs focused on disease prevention, wellness, and health promotion. • Conduct community outreach activities, workshops, and informational sessions in collaboration with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and healthcare partners. • Provide culturally appropriate education tailored to different populations and health literacy levels. • Support public health initiatives and awareness campaigns related to chronic disease prevention, screening, and early detection.
Health Services & Clinical Support
• Provide direct nursing services such as health screenings, assessments, immunizations, and referrals as appropriate. • Assist patients and community members in navigating healthcare services and resources. • Promote adherence to care plans, medications, and follow-up recommendations. • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Community Engagement
• Develop and implement community outreach programs to raise awareness about research studies, health services, and health initiatives. • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, clinics, and stakeholders. • Qualitative methods, interviews, coding with NVivo, Atlas.ti, or implementation science exposure. • Organize health education events, webinars, and health outreaches to promote research findings, health services, and health education.
Clinical Research Support
• Maintain accurate records of research activities, participant data, and outreach initiatives. • Prepare and manage budgets related to community engagement activities and research projects. • Organize and take reports of meetings, conferences, and training sessions for volunteers, team members, and community partners. • Support clinical research studies by assisting with participant recruitment, informed consent processes, and data collection. • Ensure compliance with research protocols, IRB requirements, and ethical standards. • Collect, document, and manage clinical and research data accurately and confidentially. • Serve as a liaison between research teams, clinical providers, and study participants.
Collaboration and Communication
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote research initiatives, community engagement activities, and health services initiatives. • Collaborate with clinical research teams, researchers, and community partners to enhance health outcomes in the community. • Supports dissemination of research findings through various channels, including social media, publications, scientific conferences, and community presentations. • Assist with grant-related activities, reporting, and community engagement deliverables as needed.
FTE: 1.0 Hiring Range: $80,870.19 - $103,109.49 Education Required: Associate degree in nursing Preferred: Bachelors degree in nursing, BSN preferred; Masters degree in Public Health, Clinical Research, or a related area. Required Licensing/Certification: Current Registered Nurse, RN license in good standing. Preferred: Certified Health Education Specialist, CHES; Certified in Public Health, CPH; Community Health Worker, CHW; Certified Clinical Research Professional, CCRP or eligible and intent to become certified; CITI GCP, Human Subjects credentialing and knowledge of regulatory requirements.

• Skill in computer software applications, data management, and analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Office 365, Excel, REDCap, Qualtrics, SPSS, R). • Ability to work in a team-based environment. • Conscience to details in study planning, data collection, and analysis. • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and public speaking skills. • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and exercise sound judgment. • Detail-oriented ability to problem-solve and decision-making. • Multitasking and time management. • Demonstrated experience in effective conflict management and resolution. • Ability to independently use technology and virtual meeting platforms. • Learn, adapt to new processes, and adhere to organizational objectives. • Write scientific manuscripts and prepare posters for presentation. • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally to community engagement and outreach events, programs, activities, or conferences related to job function, with cost reimbursable under grant funding. • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks, and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment, or water treatment system.
Work Experience
Required: A minimum of 5 years of community health, public health nursing, and clinical research or similar experience. Preferred: Bilingual (e.g., Spanish, Asian dialects, etc.). Working Environmental Conditions: In-office setting with some local travel within the greater Houston area is expected (~30 with mileage reimbursement). Willingness to work flexible hours, possible evening, weekend.
