Auburn University's Facilities Management is seeking a talented and creative Communications and Marketing Specialist to help tell the story of the people, projects, and impact behind our work. This role is ideal for a skilled writer who is passionate about crafting engaging, meaningful content and bringing complex operational topics to life for a broad audience. In this position, you will create clear, compelling, feature‑style stories that highlight the vital role Facilities Management plays across campus. Your work will connect with an internal audience of nearly 500 employees, while also shaping how faculty, staff, students, and alumni understand and experience our services.

 

 

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller and published writer who can translate technical or operational information into accessible, engaging content. You will collaborate with teams across Facilities Management to gather insights, develop story ideas, and ensure content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with our mission. In addition to writing, you will edit and refine content, ensuring clarity and quality across all communications. You will also contribute to the development of multimedia content for distribution across a variety of platforms, including websites, digital publications, and internal communication channels. This role offers an opportunity to combine creativity with purpose, showcasing the meaningful work happening behind the scenes to support the Auburn University community.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops marketing and communication plans to promote the vision, mission, goals and achievements of a school, college, department, alumni or University program directly engaged in instruction, research or outreach.
  • Researches, designs and composes content for dissemination through a variety of mediums, such as internal or external publications, brochures, posters, newsletters, websites, presentations, development/fundraising materials, press packages, or broadcast media.
  • Coordinates the production of materials to include content/style editing, designing, printing, photography and/or copywriting.
  • Coordinates marketing and communication calendars, production schedules and deadlines, including coordination of work carried out by external vendors.
  • Submits material to journals, associations or other external media, either proactively or in response to requests. Evaluates effectiveness of communications, public relations, and/or marketing programs.
  • Prepares press releases and participates in public relations activities, in conjunction with University staff.
  • Plans and organizes special events and meetings, as well as participation at conferences or trade shows.
  • May maintain files, databases and electronic records of materials.
  • May develop and manage a unit budget as well as assist with preparation of contract or grant proposals.
Qualifications:
  • Level I:

    Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field.

  • Level II:

    Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field and 2 years of experience in marketing and communications services to include print journalism.

  • Level III: 

    Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field and 4 years of experience in marketing and communications services to include print journalism.

 

Substitution allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
