Job Summary:
Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational, Bible-teaching church with four campuses in Melbourne, Viera, and Sebastian, Florida. The Melbourne campus includes both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking congregations. The Communications Director ensures that all communications effectively serve the church’s campuses and ministries while maintaining a unified identity, message, and mission.
Reporting to the Senior Pastor, the Communications Director provides strategic leadership for all communications, marketing, branding, creative services, digital engagement, public relations, and promotional efforts. This role develops and executes communication strategies that strengthen congregational engagement, support ministry initiatives, and enhance the church’s visibility within the community.
The Communications Director leads communications staff, creative professionals, volunteers, and contractors, while partnering with church leadership to communicate ministry priorities, organizational initiatives, and major events. Calvary Chapel Academy maintains its own communications team; the Director serves as a strategic advisor to Academy leadership as needed to ensure overall brand alignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the church’s mission, vision, and ministry priorities.
• Serve as steward of the church’s brand, messaging, voice, and visual identity across all campuses and ministries.
• Partner with church leadership to communicate strategic initiatives, ministry priorities, and organizational changes.
• Establish communications goals, monitor effectiveness, and provide strategic counsel to ministry leaders.
Communications and Creative Direction
• Oversee all communication channels, including print, digital, web, social media, email, video, and environmental communications.
• Ensure communications are clear, accurate, compelling, and aligned with biblical values and church objectives.
• Lead creative campaigns supporting sermon series, ministry initiatives, special events, and church-wide programs.
• Direct storytelling efforts that highlight life transformation, ministry impact, and community engagement.
Team Leadership and Operations
• Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate communications staff, contractors, and volunteers.
• Establish effective workflows, project management systems, and production processes.
• Foster a culture of creativity, excellence, collaboration, and servant leadership.
• Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and communications resources.
Digital Engagement and Marketing
• Provide leadership for the church’s website, social media, email communications, mobile applications, and other digital platforms.
• Develop strategies that increase engagement, participation, attendance, and community awareness.
• Monitor analytics and emerging communication trends to support informed decision-making.
Public Relations and Crisis Communication
• Serve as the primary communications representative for media and public-facing communications.
• Build relationships with media outlets, community organizations, ministry partners, and stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain crisis communication plans and provide guidance during sensitive situations.
• Protect and strengthen the church’s reputation through proactive and effective communication.
Job Skills and Competencies:
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Seven or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields.
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, project management, and communication skills.
• Residence within 30 minutes of the Melbourne campus.
Preferred
• Experience in a large or multi-campus church, ministry, or nonprofit organization.
• Experience leading creative teams and managing digital communications.
• Knowledge of church management systems, CRM platforms, and marketing technologies.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
