About the Foundation
Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) is the official business name of Valley Hospital Association, Inc., which owns Mat-Su Regional Medical Center (MSRMC) in joint venture with Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS). In this capacity, MSHF board members and representatives actively participate in the governance of Mat-Su’s community hospital to protect the community’s interest in this important healthcare institution.
Apart from its role as a community hospital co-owner, MSHF is also a grant-making philanthropy organization. Grounded in organizational values of prevention, access, wellness, fairness, equity, and collaboration, the MSHF mission is to improve the health and wellness of Alaskans living in the Mat-Su. Through grantmaking, convening of local partners, and policy change, the Foundation’s work has resulted in significant improvements in systems that support the health of Mat-Su residents in areas such as behavioral health, child welfare, crisis response, community connections, workforce development, transportation, housing, and senior services.
Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator provides foundational administrative and coordination support to help the team operate efficiently. This entry-level role focuses on scheduling, preparing meeting materials, organizing documents, assisting with basic proofreading and formatting, coordinating internal systems, and gathering information from other departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn how a communications team functions while handling essential daily tasks that keep projects and workflows moving smoothly.
This is an on-site role M-F at the foundation headquarters in Wasilla, AK. The position is full-time non-exempt paying $27.60 - $30.00 per hour.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Administrative & Coordination Support
Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and coordinate appointments for the Communications team.
Prepare meeting agendas, collect materials, and take detailed meeting notes.
Maintain organized digital files, shared folders, and document archives.
Support tracking of deadlines and deliverables using project management tools.
Assist with department email inboxes by sorting, flagging, and forwarding messages.
Help process invoices, receipts, and supply requests.
Communications Support
Proofread documents for grammar, spelling, formatting inconsistencies, and clarity.
Format newsletters, presentations, and internal announcements using established templates.
Upload approved content to the intranet and other shared platforms.
Collect and synthesize online performance and media metrics for reporting.
With support from the comms team:
Coordinate all branded merchandise inventory and ordering
Serve as the primary point of contact for our internal merch platform
Coordinate online membership portal and member-facing communications
Coordinate our sponsorship program, ensuring all entitlements, perks, attendance, tabling, and other benefits are realized across staff, board, and key stakeholders.
Information Gathering & Document Preparation
Collect updates, photos, or basic content components from other departments.
Organize and compile materials needed for presentations, reports, or internal updates.
Maintain accurate lists, contact information, and distribution lists.
Project Assistance
Update project trackers or content calendars with provided information.
Assist with follow-ups on pending items or missing materials.
Support organizing documents and folders for campaigns or initiatives.
Department Operations
Maintain inventory of supplies, printed materials, or promotional items.
Prepare labels, mail items, or assist with small shipping tasks.
Help onboard new team members by preparing welcome materials and calendars.

Education and Experience Requirements
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
1–2 years of administrative, office, customer service, or coordinator experience.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
Preferred
Experience working in an office, professional, or team-focused environment.
Familiarity with Asana, Canva, Constant Contact, and other communications tools.
Interest in learning more about communications, content, or project coordination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple small tasks and deadlines.
Basic understanding of professional email and document etiquette.
Willingness to learn new tools and processes.
Ability to work well with team members and maintain a positive, service-focused approach.
Work environment: Employee will be working in a typical office environment with offices, moderate temperature, and equipment noise.
Physical demands: Employee will be spending considerable time at a desk using a computer terminal and using a personal vehicle to travel to various locations in the community.
