Title: Commissioning Manager

Job Summary:

The Commissioning Manager will serve as the Owner's Representative during the commissioning and startup phases of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for overseeing commissioning execution performed by the EPC contractor and equipment vendors, ensuring that systems are installed, tested, and energized in accordance with project specifications, safety requirements, and contractual obligations. The Commissioning Manager will coordinate commissioning activities, monitor progress, support issue resolution, and ensure safe system energization and successful turnover to operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Owner's Representative during pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, and energization activities for utility-scale BESS facilities.
  • Review commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules prepared by the EPC contractor and vendors to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Monitor commissioning progress and witness key testing activities including equipment verification, functional testing, battery system integration testing, system integration testing, and performance verification.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities between the Owner, EPC contractor, OEM vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure efficient execution and issue resolution.
  • Support energization planning and grid interconnection activities, coordinating with utilities and project teams during system backfeed and startup.
  • Track commissioning issues, punch list items, and deficiency resolution to ensure completion prior to project turnover.
  • Review commissioning documentation, test reports, and turnover packages to verify compliance with project specifications and operational readiness.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting commissioning and startup of utility-scale energy infrastructure projects such as BESS, solar PV, power generation, or high-voltage substations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, grid interconnection, and commissioning processes associated with large energy projects.
  • Experience coordinating with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and project stakeholders during construction completion and commissioning phases.
  • Ability to monitor complex commissioning schedules, identify issues, and support timely resolution.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain required site safety certifications including OSHA 30, NFPA 70E Electrical Safety, and First Aid/CPR/AED.

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting construction, commissioning, or startup of power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience serving in a Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Engineer, Site Manager, or Owner's Representative role required.
