We are seeking a Commercial Manager - Maritime & Defense Services to be based in Virginia. The Commercial Manager is a subject matter expert in maritime and defense services testing as a senior technical leader responsible for supporting growth and execution of complex Navy and shipboard testing programs. This role combines deep technical expertise with commercial acumen, partnering closely with Business Development Managers (BDMs) and Strategic Account Executives (SAEs) to secure and deliver high-value defense contracts. The Commercial Manager serves as a trusted advisor to internal teams and external customers, ensuring compliance with Navy standards while positioning ATS as a preferred partner.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary technical expert on Navy and shipboard testing requirements
Provide guidance on MIL-STD-167, MIL-STD-901 and MIL-STD-461
Review and approve test procedures prior to submission
Partner with BDMs and SAEs on strategies to capture business, including the development of proposals
Participate in customer meetings and technical presentations and serve as a consultant in their preparation
Provide consultation and support on the execution of major programs with operations teams
Maintain relationships with clients in the maritime and defense services fields
Identify emerging opportunities and stay abreast of evolving standards
10+ years of experience with testing services in the Navy, maritime and/or defense-related fields
Deep knowledge of Navy testing standards
Experience with U.S. Navy or shipbuilder programs
Ability to review technical documentation for government submission
Ability to collaborate with operational teams, building strong relationships internally as well as externally
Strong customer-facing and business development support skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder influence
Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Additional requirements:
Ability to travel up to 50%
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Ability to obtain/maintain required security clearances
Work Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with regular travel to company offices and client locations nationwide
