    Job Overview
     
    The Commercial Loan Specialist supports the commercial and small business lending process by coordinating loan documentation, closing, funding, and servicing activities. This role ensures loan files are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal policies and regulatory requirements throughout the loan lifecycle. The position serves as a key operational partner to lenders, members, and third parties to facilitate efficient loan processing and ongoing portfolio administration.
     
    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate pre-closing activities for commercial and small business loans to ensure timely and accurate loan closing 
    • Prepare, collect, review, and process documentation required for new commercial and small business loans, renewals, and modifications 
    • Facilitate communication and documentation exchange among lenders, members, and external parties involved in the loan process 
    • Verify satisfaction of loan approval conditions and confirm completeness of documentation prior to closing and funding 
    • Prepare and deliver loan closing packages for a variety of loan structures, collateral types, rates, and terms using designated loan documentation systems 
    • Maintain complete and accurate electronic loan files and supporting documentation within loan servicing and document management systems 
    • Monitor post-closing requirements, including tracking recorded instruments, maintaining loan ticklers, and ensuring completion of outstanding items 
    • Review loan files for completeness and adherence to internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements 
    • Maintain organized loan records and documentation to support audits, examinations, and ongoing compliance requirements 
    • Process loan servicing requests, including payment applications, inquiry resolution, and maintenance of loan account records
    • Serve as a resource to internal business partners and provide timely, professional
    • service to members and stakeholders throughout the loan lifecycle
     
    Minimum Required Qualifications 
    An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. 
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • 1+ years of experience in lending, loan processing, and/or relevant transferable experience
    • Must obtain Notary Public certificate and commission within 2 months of hire
     
    Preferred Qualifications 
    • Bachelor’s degree business or finance or specialized training in commercial lending or related field
    • 2+years of experience in commercial loan documentation, loan processing, loan servicing, loan administration, or commercial lending operations. 
    • Experience working in a credit union, banking, or other highly regulated financial services environment

    A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.  
    • Knowledge of commercial and small business lending processes, loan documentation requirements, and lending operations 
    • Knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and policy requirements related to commercial lending activities 
    • Skilled in interpreting loan documentation and identifying inconsistencies, missing information, and documentation requirements
    • Skilled maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail 
    • Skilled in communicating effectively with internal stakeholders, members, and external business partners 
    • Skilled in analyzing information, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues 
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, transactions, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
    • Ability to utilize loan origination, servicing, document management, and workflow systems to support lending operations
     
    Work Environment 
    Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions.
    • Hybrid (combination of remote & onsite) work environment; requires regular use of online tools, systems, and collaboration platform
    • Occasional travel to branch locations, vendor sites, or other business-related locations
    • Attendance at offsite meetings, events, or conferences as needed
